DISTRICT GRAND MASTER 1973-1983

Rt. Bro. Jehangir Shroff was installed as District Grand Master in 1973.

Rt. Bro. Jehangir Shroff was Initiated into Masonry in Lodge Cyrus No. 1359 EC on 12th June 1943. He was the Worshipful Master of the Lodge in 1951. He was an excellent ritualist and good lecturer in Masonic subjects.

During his Masonic career, Rt. Bro. Jehangir Shroff was also affiliated to the Sister Constitutions. He was the Principal Founder and first elected Worshipful Master of Lodge Nowroze Wadia No. 804, Irish Constitution. He was also WM of Lodge Al-Ameen No. 1412 Scottish Constitution and Lodge Pestonji Kapadia No. 149, Grand Lodge of India. He held exalted ranks of Past Provincial Junior Grand Chaplain in the Provincial Grand Lodge of Western India, Irish Constitution; Past Substitute District Grand Master in the District Grand Lodge of Western India, Scottish Constitution and Past Deputy Regional Grand Master in the Regional Grand Lodge of Western India, Indian Constitution.

In Lodge Cyrus No. 1359 EC, he was the Lodge Secretary for fifteen years. He was honoured by the members of Lodge Cyrus for completing twenty five years in Masonry.

In the Holy Royal Arch, he was Exalted in Chapter Cyrus No. 1359 EC. He joined Chapter Haig Brown No. 3829 EC in 1947 and became its First Principal in 1952. He was Past Third District Grand Principal in the District.

It must be noted that he was the Principal Founder of “Lions” International in India and was also the Principal Founder and First Worshipful Master of the last Lodge that was consecrated under the English Constitution in this country, namely Lions Lodge No. 7713 EC.

His love and devotion to the Order was reflected in his being the Life Governor of Royal Masonic Institution for Boys, Royal Masonic Institution for Girls, Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution and Royal Masonic Hospital.

On the 125th Anniversary of the District Grand Lodge of Bombay and on the establishment of the E.C. Grand Charity, MW Pro. Grand Master Rt. Hon. Lord Cornwallis accompanies by Lady Cornwallis paid a visit to the District. During the festival, a contributory cocktail and banquet was organized at the Taj Mahal Hotel and the Oberoi Towers respectively on 11th and 12th November.

For all his dedication, he was honoured by MW The Grand Master with the Grand Master’s “Order of Service to Masonry” OSM. Rt. WBro. J.F. Shroff, went to London to receive the honour from the MW The Pro Grand Master on December 1985. Rt. Wbro. A.E.G. Gilbert, then DGM also went to London and was present at the Grand Lodge on that auspicious occasion.

On 25th June 1990, WBro. S.K. Shah informed the brethren of Lodge Cyrus that it was the wish of Rt. WBro. J.F. Shroff, OSM, PDGM, that his collection of Masonic Jewels and Memorabilia be presented to Rt. WBro. A.E.G. Gilbert, DGM for Bombay and Northern India for the District through Lodge Cyrus. For that purpose, brethren from Lodge Cyrus contributed to a steel showcase to hold the jewels. On 25th February 1991, brethren from Lodge Cyrus assembled, after their meeting, in the office of the District Grand Lodge, when Rt. WBro. J.F. Shroff formally handed over the steel showcase with the jewels and memorabilia to Rt. WBro. A.E.G. Gilbert, DGM. The list of jewels and memorabilia were prepared by WBro. P.J. Driver to be given to the brethren.
